Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 24 October 2026 · Law Lab Africa LLC

1. Who we are and what these Terms cover

These Terms govern your use of the Law Lab Africa learning platform at learn.lawlab.africa (the “platform”), including its courses, videos, client files, quizzes, practitioner templates, the capstone and certificates.

The platform is run by Law Lab Africa LLC, a limited liability company formed in Wyoming, United States, with its registered office at 30 N Gould St Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States (“Law Lab Africa”, “we”, “us”). You can reach us at course@lawlab.africa.

By creating an account or enrolling in a programme, you agree to these Terms. Please read them before you register. How we handle your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.

Some programmes have their own terms, for example a scholarship offer (our Scholarship Policy), a university cohort or an agreement with your employer. Where those terms differ from these Terms, the programme’s own terms apply to that programme.

2. Your account

You must give us accurate information when you register, including your name as it should appear on your certificate. Use an email address you expect to keep, not one that will close when you leave a university or a job.

Your account is for you alone. You must not share your login, let anyone else use your account, or use anyone else’s. Keep your password to yourself. If you think someone else has used your account, change your password and tell us at course@lawlab.africa.

We may ask you to confirm who you are before we change an account, issue a certificate or answer a request about your data.

3. What our courses are, and what they are not

Our courses teach law and legal practice, country by country, for training purposes. They are legal information, not legal advice about your own situation or anyone else’s. Enrolling does not create a lawyer-client relationship with Law Lab Africa.

We check each module against the primary law and show the date it was last checked. The law and regulatory practice change, and we do not guarantee that a module reflects changes made after that date. Before you rely on any point in your professional work, check the current law yourself.

The people, organisations, companies, products, documents and events in the course’s examples, client files, practitioner tasks, quizzes, videos and capstone are fictional and were created for training. Any resemblance to a real person or organisation, including one with the same or a similar name, is coincidental and says nothing about that person or organisation. The exceptions are laws, published guidance, and decisions of courts, data protection authorities and other regulators. These are real, and we cite them to their source.

4. Your enrolment and your licence

When you enrol, we give you a personal licence to use the course you enrolled in, for the purposes these Terms allow. The licence is non-exclusive, and you cannot transfer it, sell it or pass it on.

  • An individual enrolment covers one named learner.
  • A team enrolment covers the named learners agreed with the organisation that pays for it. Each seat is for one person. We move a seat to someone else only at the organisation’s request and under its agreement with us.

Enrolling does not give you ownership of any part of the course. Each country edition (for example, the Kenya Edition) is a separate course, and enrolling in one does not give you access to another.

5. Lifetime access, updates and cohort windows

“Lifetime access” means you keep access to the edition you enrolled in, including its modules, quizzes, client files, practitioner resources and your own records, for as long as Law Lab Africa offers that edition on the platform.

When we revise a module in your edition, for example after a change in the law, you see the revised module at no extra cost. Lifetime access does not include other editions, or a new edition we build to replace yours after a major change in the law. If we release a replacement edition, you keep access to yours, and we will offer you the new one at a returning-learner price.

If we decide to retire an edition or close the platform, we will tell you by email at least 90 days before access ends, unless the law or a cause outside our control makes that impossible. During that time you can download your records from your Account page. Certificate verification is covered in section 13.

Some intakes have a cohort window, with dates by which the module quizzes and the capstone must be completed to earn that cohort’s certificate. A cohort window does not end your access to the course materials under this section.

6. Enrolments arranged by an employer, university or other organisation

If an organisation pays for or arranges your enrolment, it decides who receives its seats. It does not own your account or your work.

We never give an organisation an individual learner’s progress, quiz results, answers, memos, capstone, notes or messages. Organisations receive only figures that identify nobody, such as how many of their seats are in use or how many of their learners have finished. If an organisation asks you directly whether you have completed the course, it is up to you what to tell it, and you can show it your certificate.

7. Who owns the course

Law Lab Africa owns the course and everything we created for it, or holds the rights to use it. This includes:

  • the lesson text, explanations, worked examples and summaries;
  • the videos, their scripts, narration, animation and captions;
  • the diagrams, charts, illustrations, visual aids, slides and lesson cards;
  • the client files, the fictional organisations and their documents, emails and voice notes;
  • the quiz questions, answer options, explanations and pass marks;
  • the model memos, model responses and checklists;
  • the practitioner templates;
  • the selection, structure and arrangement of the course as a whole; and
  • the platform’s software, design and look, and the Law Lab Africa name and logo.

We do not own laws, court judgments or the decisions and published guidance of regulators. You may use those as the law allows. Material written by others that we quote or link to remains theirs, and we credit it.

Nothing in these Terms takes away anything the law allows you to do without our permission, such as quoting a short passage, with credit, for criticism, review or research.

8. What you may do with the course

You may:

  • study the course, and watch, read and replay any part of it, as often as you like;
  • make your own notes and highlights, and download your notes;
  • download the client file PDFs and the practitioner templates the course offers for download, and use them as sections 9 and 10 allow;
  • use what you have learned in your own work; and
  • tell others about the course and show them your certificate.

9. What you may not do

Unless we have agreed otherwise in writing, you may not do any of the following, with any part of the course, whether you do it yourself or ask someone else to:

  • Copy or record it. This includes screen recording, downloading videos, taking screenshots or photographs to share, and copying lesson text, diagrams, illustrations, visual aids or slides.
  • Share or publish it. This includes posting it on a website or social media, sending it to a WhatsApp or Telegram group, putting it on a shared drive, and giving it to colleagues, classmates or clients.
  • Sell, rent or lend it, or include it in anything you sell.
  • Turn it into teaching material. This includes using it to build your own course, training session, slides, book, article series or study guide, or translating or adapting it for that purpose. If you want to train a team with the course, ask us about a team enrolment.
  • Share the assessments. This includes the quiz questions and answers, the client files, the model memos and model responses, and the capstone materials, which lose their value if they circulate.
  • Share your account, or let anyone watch or work through the course with your login.
  • Use automated tools on the platform. This includes bots, scrapers, crawlers and download tools, and any tool that collects the course’s content.
  • Reverse engineer the platform. This includes decompiling or disassembling its software, trying to reach its source code or databases, probing or testing its security without our permission, and trying to get into another learner’s account.
  • Get round its controls. This includes the video protections, the reading-time rules that open each quiz, the order in which client file briefs are delivered, and any limit on access.
  • Remove our marks. This includes any copyright notice, credit or other marking on course material.
  • Feed it to an AI system (section 11).

Breaching this section infringes our copyright as well as these Terms, and section 20 applies.

10. Practitioner templates

Most modules end with a practitioner task, which comes with a template to download, such as a register, a notice or an assessment form. The templates are there for you to practise the module’s skills.

You may download the templates, complete them as you work through the practitioner tasks, and keep your completed copies for your own reference.

You may not, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing:

  • use a template, edited or not, to prepare documents for your employer or for clients;
  • sell, give away or publish the templates, or offer them as a download;
  • include them in a template library, precedent bank, toolkit, software product, subscription service or training product; or
  • present them as your own original work.

If you enrolled before 24 October 2026, the Terms you agreed to allowed you to use the templates in your own professional work, including on real client matters. You keep that right for the edition you enrolled in, but you still may not resell, rebrand or redistribute the templates.

Client files, model memos, model responses and quiz materials are not templates, and section 9 applies to them in full.

11. AI tools

You may use AI tools for your own learning, for example to test your understanding by explaining a concept in your own words, or to check the grammar of your own writing.

You may not:

  • upload, paste or feed course material (lesson text, transcripts, client files, model memos and responses, quiz questions or practitioner templates) into an AI tool or any other outside service;
  • use course material to train, fine-tune, evaluate or prompt an AI model, or to build a dataset; or
  • use automated tools to collect course material for any of these purposes.

The rules on AI help with the capstone and the client file memos are in section 12.

12. Your work, and academic integrity

Your work is yours. You keep any rights you have in the work you create on the platform: your client file memos, your capstone, your answers, your notes and your messages.

So that we can run the course, you give us permission to store, copy, display to you, mark, comment on and keep your work, for as long as we hold your account under our Privacy Policy, and to use it to check for academic misconduct. We may study patterns across many learners’ answers, for example which question most learners get wrong, to improve the course. We will not publish your work, quote it, show it to other learners, use it in our marketing or put it in our course materials without your written permission.

Do not put real confidential client information, or real people’s personal data, into your work. The course gives you fictional facts to work with.

Academic integrity. Your quiz answers, memos and capstone must be your own work. In particular:

  • do not complete a quiz, memo or capstone for someone else, or have anyone complete yours;
  • do not copy another learner’s work, or a model memo or model response, and present it as yours; and
  • in the capstone and the memos, the analysis and the advice must be your own. You may use an AI tool only to check the spelling and grammar of text you have written. If you used an AI tool in any other way, say so in your submission.

If we suspect a breach, we will tell you what we have found and give you at least seven days to respond before we decide. We may then ask you to redo the work, withhold a certificate, or withdraw one issued because of the breach. You can ask for our decision to be reviewed by writing to course@lawlab.africa.

13. Certificates

You receive a certificate when you meet the requirements published for your programme. These are usually passing every module quiz and, where the programme has one, a capstone marked as passed by a reviewer.

A certificate records that you completed a Law Lab Africa training programme and its assessments. It is not a professional qualification, an admission or licence to practise, or an accreditation by any regulator, and it does not by itself earn professional development (CPD) points unless your programme’s page says so.

Each certificate has a credential ID. Anyone with the ID or the certificate’s link can confirm it is genuine. Our Privacy Policy explains what the verification page shows and what happens to it if you delete your account.

If your name is wrong on a certificate, you can correct it from your Account page. We may correct a certificate issued in error, and we may withdraw a certificate obtained in breach of section 12, after following the process in that section.

14. Prices and payment

The price, currency and any taxes are shown at checkout before you pay. Card payments are processed by our payment provider, which holds your card details. We do not see or store them.

Before you pay, you can review your order, correct mistakes and choose whether to go ahead. Your enrolment starts once your payment is confirmed, or once an approved scholarship or sponsored enrolment is applied. We send you a confirmation email with a link to the version of these Terms you agreed to.

15. Refunds and cancellation

Paid enrolments. You can cancel and receive a full refund if you ask within 7 days of paying and, by the time you ask, you have completed no more than the first module and received no certificate. Write to course@lawlab.africa from your account email. We refund to the original payment method within 14 days of your request.

Cohort programmes with a start date. If your programme has a published start date, you can also cancel for a full refund at any time before that date.

Scholarships. Scholarship contributions are refunded under section 8 of our Scholarship Policy, not this section.

If we cancel. If we cancel a programme before you can take it, or cannot provide what you paid for, we will refund you in full or, if you prefer, move you to another intake.

Outside these cases, we do not give a refund simply because you change your mind once you have used the course. Nothing in this section limits any right to cancel or to a refund that the law gives you.

16. Scholarships, discounts and codes

Scholarships, discounts, sponsored places and codes are subject to the conditions in the offer, including who may use them and by when. They are personal to the person they were offered to and cannot be transferred, sold or shared unless the offer says so.

We may check that you are eligible. If a place, discount or code was obtained through false information or used by someone it was not issued to, we may cancel it and the enrolment it paid for.

17. Learners under 18

Most of our programmes are for adults. A programme that is open to learners under 18 says so on its page and has its own terms. For those programmes, a parent or guardian must register the learner and give consent, and the programme’s safeguarding rules apply. We may switch off some features for younger learners, such as messaging.

18. Using the platform responsibly

You must not use the platform in a way that breaks the law, harms other people or puts the platform at risk. Do not harass anyone, send anything abusive or unlawful through the platform’s messages, try to get into accounts or data that are not yours, or interfere with the platform’s working.

If you find a security weakness, please tell us at course@lawlab.africa, and do not test it further.

19. When the platform is unavailable

We work to keep the platform available, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted. We may take it offline for maintenance or to fix a fault, and we may change features. If an interruption stops you completing a programme with a deadline, tell us and we will extend the deadline or find another fair solution.

20. Suspending or closing an account

If you breach these Terms, we may warn you, suspend your account, or close it and end your enrolment. Our response will be in proportion to what happened. Unless we must act at once to protect the platform, other learners or our content, we will first tell you what we think you have done and give you a chance to respond. If we close your account for a serious breach, such as sharing the course or your account, we do not refund the fee.

If you think we have made a mistake, write to course@lawlab.africa and we will review the decision.

21. Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for providing the course with reasonable care and skill, as described on its page.

We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable when you enrolled, or for business losses such as lost profit, lost clients or lost opportunities. This includes losses arising from how you or anyone else uses what the course teaches, because the course is training, not legal advice (section 3).

Apart from the cases in the next paragraph, our total responsibility to you for any course is limited to the amount you paid for it.

Nothing in these Terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Nothing in these Terms affects your rights as a consumer, or your rights over your personal data.

22. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the law of Kenya. The courts of Kenya may decide any dispute about them, but this does not stop either of us from bringing a claim in another country where the law allows it. If you live outside Kenya and the consumer or data protection law of your country protects you, you keep that protection, including any right to bring a claim in the courts of your own country.

If something goes wrong, please write to us first at course@lawlab.africa. Most problems can be solved quickly that way.

23. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms, for example when the law changes or we add a new kind of programme. The version in force when you enrol applies to your enrolment. A later change that reduces your rights under an existing enrolment applies to it only if you agree to it. Other changes, such as clearer wording or new options, apply from the date at the top of this page. A change will never take away anything you have already paid for, such as access to your edition.
